1. The Murder Castle: The Dark History of H.H. Holmes' Hotel

  • H.H. Holmes was an American businessman with a dark secret.
  • In 1893, Holmes built a strange hotel in Chicago.
  • The hotel was called the World's Fair Hotel, later known as the "Murder Castle".
  • The hotel had unusual features like:
  • The rooms were strange, with some being too small, the stairs ending without a room, a staircase built at the back of one room, a gas pipe running through another person's room etc.
  • In one year, Holmes murdered many people in this hotel.
  • Police caught Holmes in 1894 after a big search.
  • His story shocked the whole country.

2. Amazon Rainforest: The Green Hell of Brazil
 
  • The Amazon Rainforest is very large and has many types of plants and animals.
  • People in Brazil sometimes call it "Hell".
  • Even though it looks green and beautiful, the Amazon is a very harsh place.
  • Experienced explorers find it scary.
  • People who get lost in the Amazon say:
    • The tree cover seems endless
    • It's hard to see far
    • It feels like nature is swallowing you
  • The green area in the above picture is Amazon's greenery and the white part is cloud.
  • The forest has too much of everything, which can be dangerous.
  • It's an example of how too much of a good thing can be harmful.

3. Bengaluru's Ghostly Legend
 
  • Bengaluru is often called India's Silicon Valley.
  • The city has an old, scary story called "Nale Ba".
  • This ghost story is centuries old, from the 1700s to 1900s.
  • Older people in Karnataka still remember being afraid of this story.
  • "Nale Ba" means "Come Tomorrow" in the local language.
  • Even today, you can see 'Nale Ba' written in faded letters outside some people's houses.
  • That woman used to be just like any other woman. She was in love with a boy, but he betrayed her and humiliated her in front of the entire group of men and the whole village.
  • And from that incident, she was said to be seeking revenge for being betrayed and killed.
  • Some people say they can still feel the ghost's presence today.
  • This feeling is strongest during the first four days of Navratri (a festival).

4. The Chess Master Challenge: Robert Wade's Epic Defeat
  • Robert Wade was a skilled international chess master.
  • Wade made a bold claim about his chess abilities.
  • He became overconfident and took a challenge to prove his good gameplay and skills.
  • He challenged 30 players to play chess against him at the same time and these 30 players were students.
  • Wade thought he could beat all 30 players.
  • This chess event was shown live to the audience.
  • Surprisingly, Wade didn't win any games:
    • He lost 10 games
    • The other 20 games were ties (draws)
  • This result was unexpected and shocking. Wade's overconfidence led to his defeat.
  • This event is remembered as one of the biggest surprises in chess history.

5. The Ancient Origins of Lenses
 
  • Lenses are much older than most people think.
  • The first known lenses are nearly 5,000 years old.
  • These ancient lenses were found in Egypt.
  • They date back to the Vth Dynasties of the Old Kingdom.
  • These old lenses can be seen in two famous museums:
    • The Louvre Museum in Paris
    • The Egyptian Museum in Cairo
  • Ancient Egyptians didn't use these lenses like we do today.
  • They put the lenses in the eyes of statues.

6. The Toothpick Masterpiece
 
  • Scott Weaver is an artist from San Francisco America.
  • He made an amazing model of San Francisco:
    • Using only toothpicks
    • Took 37 years to complete
  • Scott started this project when he was 17 years old.
  • And when he turned into 50 years then he completed this model.
  • And this model is completely hand made as you can see in the picture.
  • He used about 100,000 toothpicks to build it.
  • The model is very detailed and complex.
  • This artwork shows:
    • Great patience
    • Lots of creativity
    • Strong passion
  • It's an extreme example of toothpick art.
  • The model is both art and a model of the city.
  • It took so long because Scott built it by hand.
  • This is a unique way to represent San Francisco.
  • It shows how everyday items can be used for art.
  • This project is an example of dedication to a creative idea.
